Empowering Black Girls: Disney's 'Wish' Joins the Black Girls Matter Meetups Tour 2024
Thousands of students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) attended the annual Black Girls Matter Meetups Tour that took place from February 19th to 28. This year, the tour had a special guest - Disney's new animated adventure, 'Wish,' which celebrated its digital and Blu-ray release. This year's tour theme was "Stepping Into My Power," which perfectly aligned with the character of Asha, voiced by Ariana DeBose, in the film.
There were Yardside Chats conversations that covered relevant film topics, and there were on-site activations and special giveaway items for attendees. The Black Girls Matter Meetups Tour is an intimate event series that celebrates the African-American and HBCU communities.
This tour brings together a select audience for an enriching experience filled with culturally relevant conversations, empowering discussions focused on students' achievements, pivotal branded moments, and engaging entertainment, all designed to ignite brand loyalty and establish meaningful connections with students.
Tuskegee University (Tuskegee, Alabama), University of District of Columbia (Washington, DC), Albany State University (Albany, Georgia), and Xavier University of Louisiana (New Orleans, Louisiana) were the four schools that participated in the tour this year. The participation of 'Wish' in the Black Girls Matter Meetups Tour was an excellent opportunity to inspire and empower young women, promoting diversity and representation in the entertainment industry.
Disney's 'Wish' is an incredible film that teaches the importance of courage, perseverance, and the power of friendship. It is available now at digital retailers and will be available on Blu-ray on March 12th.
